Why these: each one ranks by strength and was updated in launch week (from October 28, 2026). Each counts once, the majority decides, and a split goes to the lower tier. Closed-beta snapshots, pre-launch estimates and reroll-priority lists are not used. Last checked Oct 30, 2026.

Every change to this tier is logged in the changelog.

Strengths

  • Only option for Ice coverage at launch
  • Can stun, and Skating Charge gives unusual mobility

Weaknesses

  • Needs to keep hitting the head to get full value

Other Assault Adventurers

The kit, in short

Rhodes swings a heavy Hammer. Different charged attacks build and convert energy, and certain moves spend it on a powerful explosion.

Summarised from the official description.

The Assault class

Assault is the damage class. On hunts, Assault Adventurers fight alongside a Palico Buddy that adds bursts of damage.

Every Adventurer also feeds the squad's shared energy for the Co-Op Skill, which only lands when the whole squad hits the same monster part within a short window.

Rhodes's skills explained

Exclusive Trait My Invention Never Fails
Skating Charged Attacks deal 20% more ice damage.
Co-op Skill Felyne Flywheel Smash!
Slides in, scoops up the Felyne and hurls it spinning at the monster for continuous hits; hitting the co-op focus part advances co-op phase.
Skill 1 Charge
Mobile charge whose level rises over time; Basic Attack releases a level 1/2/3 finisher (Charged Swing / Charged Upswing / Charged Big Bang). Holding or re-tapping Skill 1 switches to Skating Charge: faster, drains stamina, spends Steam Energy and fills Core Energy (Skating finishers: Seismic Swing at level 1, Spinning Slam at level 2).
Skill 2 Steam Stance
Continuously converts Steam Energy; gives a short parry window against monster attacks, and a successful parry triggers an upswing counter. After a parry, Basic Attack becomes Spinning Slam and Skill 1 starts the charge already at level 3.
Skill 3 Steam Skyrender
Burst skill usable at full Core Energy: leap-and-dive strike that spends all Core Energy on hit; Basic Attack can follow with Spinning Slam.
Squadmate Skill Steam Follow-Up
When the Main Adventurer or any Ultimate suppresses the monster, deals heavy blunt damage. Once every 40s.
Ultimate Mega Hammer
Bolts two extra parts onto the hammer to make a giant hammer and lands one huge smash.
All 10 Insights
  • Ultra Hammer: Ultimate damage +30%, and a further +30% against dazed monsters. (30 pts)
  • Aftershock Resonance: After using the Ultimate, skill and Squadmate Skill damage +27% for 20s. (30 pts)
  • Efficient Pulley: Skating Charge stamina cost -60%. (30 pts)
  • Counter Wind-up: After a Steam Stance parry, the next Skating Charged Attack gives 50% more Core Energy and costs no Steam Energy. (30 pts)
  • Max Charge Bang: Steam Skyrender damage +50% and it grants 50 Steam Energy on hit. (30 pts)
  • Pressurized Wheel Strike: While above 50 Steam Energy, Skating Charged Attacks get +50% damage and stun buildup. (30 pts)
  • Power Charge: Ultimate charge rate +5%. (10 pts)
  • Hunting Spirit: Damage dealt +5%. (10 pts)
  • Protection: Physical damage taken -8%. (5 pts)
  • Harmony: All elemental resistances +8%. (5 pts)

How to play Rhodes

  1. Use Charge or Skating Charge to reposition, since the Hammer is slow on foot. Skating Charge is faster but drains stamina.
  2. Build Steam Energy with normal hits, then spend it on Skating charged attacks and Steam Stance.
  3. Parry in Steam Stance for the upswing counter, then follow with Spinning Slam or a level 3 charge.
  4. Bank Core Energy for Steam Skyrender and release it during a topple or head stagger, not while the monster is charging.
  5. Work from the monster’s left shoulder and rotate to the head as it turns. Without head access he plays like an ordinary Hammer.

Good matchups: Diablos, Rathalos, Odogaron.
